Program
The first week is devoted to a general introduction to Combinatorics on Words and the study of basic notions (factors, borders, periods, powers, palindromes, etc.), and different mechanisms for generating and classifying infinite words (morphisms, Toeplitz words, avoidance of patterns, critical exponent, etc.).
The second week will be devoted to the study of important classes of words: Lyndon words, Sturmian words, etc.

Lecturer
Gabriele Fici is Associate Professor of Computer Science at University of Palermo, Italy. He graduated in Mathematics at University of Palermo in 2002, and in 2006 he got a joint PhD in Mathematics at University of Palermo and in Computer Science at University of Marne-la-Vallée (now University Gustave Eiffel), France. He then was research assistant at University of Salerno, Italy, and then at University of Nice, France, before joining University of Palermo as an Assistant Professor in 2012.
Gabriele Fici’s research interests lie in the fields of Combinatorics on Words and String Algorithms. He regularly serves in the Program Committees of international conferences in these fields (CPM, SPIRE, WORDS, etc.). He is also member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal RAIRO-ITA.
Gabriele Fici coauthored more than 70 papers published in international journals and proceedings of international conferences. His h-index, according to Google Scholar, is 20.
Venue
The events will be held at Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI), the national research institute for mathematics and computer science
in the Netherlands, which will also organize the events. CWI is located at the Amsterdam Science Park on the east side of Amsterdam.
